Vivaha wedding Rritual
The Sacred Vedic Hindu Wedding Ceremony
Marriage in Hindu Dharma is not simply a ceremony—it is a sacred commitment and a spiritual journey.
Vivaha Samskara brings two individuals together as husband and wife to establish a new home, build a family, fulfill their responsibilities, experience the joys of life, and progress spiritually together.
The husband and wife become partners in pursuing the four sacred goals of life:
Dharma -job and carrier – fulfilling our duties and living a righteous life
Artha Finances – earning and using wealth through rightful means-
Kama -Desires– experiencing love, happiness, family, and the joys of life
Moksha-Salavation – overcoming ego and attachment and progressing toward spiritual liberation
Kanyadanam – A Sacred Trust
Kanyadanam is the sacred moment when the bride’s parents entrust their daughter to the groom as his life partner. It is not the giving away of a person as an object. Rather, it represents trust, friendship, mutual respect, and the promise that husband and wife will support and care for each other throughout life.
Mangal Pheres – The Seven Sacred Rounds
The bride and groom make seven sacred rounds (Mangal Pheres / Mangal Pradakshinas) around Agni, the sacred fire.
Agni represents life, purity, transformation, sacrifice, and the passage of time. As the couple moves around the fire, they symbolically begin their journey together through the cycles and changing stages of life.
The seven rounds Dived into four plus three the four remind the couple to walk together through Dharma, Artha, Kama, and the ultimate journey toward Moksha, supporting one another through happiness and challenges and gradually learning to overcome selfishness and ego. The three reminds us starting continuing and completion the three phases of life start, work, complete.
Marriage as a Spiritual Journey
The deepest purpose of marriage is not only to create a household, but to grow together as human beings.
Through love, responsibility, sacrifice, forgiveness, and service, husband and wife learn to move from “I” to “We.” They support each other, nurture the next generation, serve their family and community, and ultimately seek peace, wisdom, and spiritual fulfillment.
